About Me:

Hi, I’m Joanna πŸ‘‹

I’m a wife and mom to three. Two of our kids learn outside of a traditional school setting; between a mix of lessons at home, classes, activities, and keeping everyone where they need to be, life stays full in the best (and busiest) way.

Thanks to my dad, my love for photography started young. What began as a simple fundraiser at the end of 2019, soon turned into a real business, and I’ve been capturing families, couples, and kids ever since.  β€‹My goal is simple: beautiful photos and a good time getting them. I believe photo sessions should be enjoyable, not stressful. You don't need to worry about knowing how to pose or keeping everyone perfectly on their best behavior- I’m always ready to embrace the chaos and find the fun. πŸ’ƒ I'll help with posing when needed, but some of my absolute favorite images are the natural smiles, genuine laughs, and those little, unscripted moments that happen entirely on their own in between.

I love... time spent with family + friends, coffee, all things Jane Austen, reading (audiobooks count!), the desert when it rains, and extended family sessions that bring everyone together. Fueled by faith (and caffeine), life as a Type C mom means keeping our busy daily calendar on the tracks with surprising success… but I may still forget to reply to your text message.

If that happens, please give me a nudge! πŸ™ˆ

Why "Lemon + Lily"?

My dad and his favorite pose...!

People often ask about the meaning behind the name "Lemon + Lily." The answer is a mix of our family's story, finding beauty in the bittersweet, and a little bit of photo-day humor.

Over the span of three years, my husband and I lost three babies - all during the second trimester of my pregnancies. Our second baby was a little girl we named Susanna, which means "lily." After her death, friends and family showered our home with lilies. They quickly became my favorite flower and remain to this day a sweet reminder of three very loved babies we have yet to meet.

About a year after our third loss, our story took a joyful turn when we adopted our daughter, Elisabeth! My professional photography journey actually began through an adoption fundraiser for her, so when it came time to name my business, I wanted it to reflect the road that brought me here. "Lemon + Lily" felt like the perfect fit, because even after some of life’s sourest seasons, beauty and sweetness can still bloom (Isaiah 61:3). πŸ’

A dear friend also pointed out that every photo session seems to have both "lemons" and "lilies." The lemons are the ones who aren't exactly thrilled about family photos (I'm looking at my husband and dad, who both dread the camera), while the lilies have been counting down the days, coordinating outfits, and are ready to show up, shine, and make some memories (my mom and me, without question).

No matter which category you fall into, I promise we'll have fun and create images you'll treasure for years to come.  πŸ“Έβœ¨
